NatureMetrics Ecosystem Intelligence Suite is a growing collection of Ecosystem Condition Indices that work together to give you a complete view of nature performance across your entire portfolio.

The only globally applicable soil ecosystem condition index, with methodology independently accredited by Accounting for Nature® to 95% accuracy. Measures bacteria, fungi and soil invertebrates against a reference site.

A single, 0-100 defensible biological condition score for rivers - scored against NatureMetrics' extensive UK freshwater eDNA database, trained against Water Framework Directive classifications.

Ecosystem condition scoring for terrestrial vegetation and mangrove ecosystems — powered by remote sensing data. No field sampling required. Global applicability from launch.
Why the suite exists
Organisations need to measure, report and act on ecosystem health. But the tools most teams
currently rely on were never built for that purpose.

Satellite data can't see below the surface. Remote sensing captures extent and land use — not whether an ecosystem is biologically alive or declining.
Chemistry tests miss the biology. A river can pass every water quality test and still have lost 80% of its invertebrate diversity.
Conventional surveys don't scale. Specialist teams, seasonal windows and inconsistent methods make portfolio-level measurement impossible.
Data can't reach the board. Scattered site reports, inconsistent methods and nostandard scale means nature data can't be aggregated into the single numberexecutives need.

eDNA technology captures the full biological picture — from a soil core or abankside water sample — that no satellite or chemistry test alone can reach
A single 0–100 score per ecosystem - a standard format, comparable across sites, comparable year-on-year, aggregatable to portfolio level.
Operational field teams deploy the sampling kits — no specialist ecologists, noseasonal restrictions
The same biological evidence that informs site management feeds into the number a CFO presents to the board or discloses to regulators
Designed from the ground up for TNFD, CSRD, SBTN, BNG and natural capitalaccounting — not retrofitted to them
How every ECI works
Every index in the Ecosystem Intelligence Suite follows the same five-step
architecture — collection, analysis, scoring, aggregation and reporting.
Collect biological data using NatureMetrics eDNA kits —simply collect soil cores or bankside water.
DNA is extracted inthe NatureMetrics labs andmatched against curatedreference databases
Biological data scored 0–100 against theappropriate benchmark forthat ecosystem
Site scores roll up to asingle portfolio ECI — onenumber for every asset and portfolio
Aggregated scores and metrics feed natural capital accounts and regulatory disclosures

Know exactly which biological community is driving your score — and why. Whether it's fungi lagging in soil, macroinvertebrate diversity declining in a river, or vegetation structure deteriorating on a restoration site. Targeted interventions based on real biology.

See nature performance and risk across all assets in one view. Track whether you're Net Positive or Net Loss. Identify which sites need resources and which are performing. Report to your board with one scientifically-backed number — comparable across every ecosystem type in your portfolio.

Feed ECI data into Natural Capital Accounts, rehabilitation provisions, ESG disclosures and risk assessments. Soil Quality Hectares and Quality-Km as condition-adjusted units for net loss/gain accounting. Connect ecosystem health to the financial metrics your organisation already runs on.
Every index in the suite is designed to hold up to the same scrutiny a financial metric would face. Standardised, repeatable methodology. Every score traceable from portfolio metric back to raw eDNA data.
Built for the rigour that investors, regulators and auditors
demand.

The third index in the suite — a remote-sensing-powered condition score for terrestrial vegetation and mangrove ecosystems. No field sampling required. Global applicability from launch.
Same index architecture as
Soil ECI and Freshwater ECI
Satellite-powered — no field sampling from day one
Complete the picture. When Vegetation ECI launches, you’ll have a single portfolio view of ecosystem condition across soil health, river health and vegetation structure - all in the same 0-100 framwork
No field visits, no specialist ecologists, no sampling kits. The entire methodology runs on satellite data.
Internal datasets benchmark site health automatically — removing a major barrier to adoption and enabling global scalability from day one.
Vegetation Function (productivity) and Vegetation Structure (connectivity and intactness) combine into a single 0–100 condition index.
Apply the scoring model to existing satellite archives — no new field season required to establish your trend line.
Whether you're assessing pre-development baselines, managing active operations,
driving restoration or validating offsets — the Ecosystem Intelligence Suite delivers
the biological evidence you need at every stage.
Identify high-value ecosystems beforeproject design lock-in. Baseline assessment reveals biological condition of sites and corridors — so avoidance decisions are grounded in biology, not desktop models.
Track the biological impact of active operations in real time. Quantify your operational footprint and understand whether mitigation measures are actually reducing degradation on the ground.
Validate that rehabilitation and restoration programmes are delivering genuine biological recovery — not just visual greening. Annual ECI tracking proves trajectory towards the reference condition.
Prove offset sites are delivering the promised biological gains. SQH and Quality-Km deltas provide the biological evidence for regulatory approval, compensation claims and nature market access.
How every ECI works
The Ecosystem Intelligence Suite works across every sector where naturere
presents either an operational dependency, a regulatory obligation or a
material financial risk.
Will we get closure approval?
Can we prove our rehabilitation is working?
What's our NNL/NPI position?
Track rehabilitation from disturbance to closure target
Example: Year 0: 30% ECI → Year 5: 68% ECI → Target Year 10: 80% ECI. You can model the trajectory and enter closure approvals with confidence.
Prove NNL/NPI with a defensible ledger
Example: -65 Soil Quality Hectares (SQH) at pit + 80 SQH at offset = +15 SQH Net Positive. One number your board, regulator, and community can all understand.
Optimise offsets based on actual performance
Stop hoping your compensation sites work. Measure them.
Is our regenerative agriculture program actually working?
Can we prove it without greenwashing risk?
Verify regeneration with measurable outcomes
Example: Conventional baseline 40% ECI → Regenerative (5 years) 68% ECI. Prove soil health is improving, not just practices adopted.
De-risk supply chains by mapping ecosystem degradation
Identify sourcing regions with <30% ECl before yields collapse.
Give farmers actionable insights
The biological breakdown tells them exactly what to adjust.
Access green finance with auditable MRV
Use ECI as KPI for sustainability-linked loans: "Achieve 50% average ECI by 2028"
Will our route avoid the most sensitive areas?
Can we prove our mitigation and offsets are delivering?
Evidence-based avoidance
Assess ecosystem condition along potential corridors before design lock-in. Identify high-value areas requiring route adjustment. Demonstrate to statutory consultees that sensitive sites were genuinely avoided.
Real-time impact minimisation
Quarterly monitoring during construction vs annual surveys. Rapid detection of unexpected impacts → intervention before regulatory breach. Prove to communities and regulators that impacts are contained as promised.
Offset validation over time
Monitor offset site performance over multi-decade agreements. Early warning of offset failure → intervention before non-compliance. Demonstrate portfolio-level net gain: "Despite 10km of new road, our ecosystem condition improved."
Did our restoration work?
Can we prove impact to donors and unlock outcome-based funding?
Prove impact with quantified outcomes
Example: Baseline 35% ECI → Year 5: 65% ECI = 30 percentage points improvement. Show donors ecosystem function improved, not just trees planted.
Adaptive management based on what works
ECI breakdown shows why some sites recover faster. Replicate success
Unlock PES and biodiversity credits.
Quality Hectares provide the MRV framework for payment.
