Meet Net Positive Impact targets

According to CIEEM, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is ‘an approach to development that leaves biodiversity in a better state than before. Where a development has an impact on biodiversity it encourages developers to provide an increase in appropriate natural habitat and ecological features over and above that being affected in such a way it is hoped that the current loss of biodiversity through development will be halted and ecological networks can be restored.

NatureMetrics welcomes BNG and Natural England’s Biodiversity Metric, which has the potential to improve biodiversity outcomes and create nature markets across England. Our innovative technology can be used to support the aims and objectives of BNG, and we are already working with clients to use eDNA to complement and support BNG assessments.

We would love to explore with you how we can help you meet your BNG goals.

Some of the ways in which our eDNA services can complement and support your BNG efforts include:

  • We can provide a robust understanding of ecosystem health and how it changes over time by capturing detailed eDNA data that can be used to create a biodiversity baseline for your chosen site

  • We help you to future-proof projects by providing more information on your existing biodiversity baseline than is currently required. This is important since you cannot go back and redo a baseline, and the standards are constantly evolving. Because samples are frozen, you are enabled to future proof your projects against changes in standards (both voluntary and regulatory)

  • eDNA can easily and cost-effectively tell you about the presence of invasive non native species (INNS) in your water bodies – a requirement of the Biodiversity Metric

Why NatureMetrics?

Ease of use – Our kits are tried and tested by diverse groups across the world.

The NatureMetrics FieldMate App empowers you to collect and submit your field data on the go.

Our highly specialised team includes 18+ postdoctoral level scientists.

Compliant with all Natural England, UK and EU eDNA requirements, laws and legislations.

eDNA samples can be hard to work with – we take the time to troubleshoot difficult samples to ensure you get the best possible results.

Specialist eDNA facilities with robust quality control procedures at every stage of the process.
